From the Road: Austin – Lubbock

The Point of it All

I have no means of discussing this without it coming off as arrogance so here it is, I’ve on more than one occasion been told to blog or write or do something with words. While yes, I’m a chatty Cathy, I’m equally gifted with the written word.

This seemed as a good time as any to start using that gift. More to the point, you may have noticed (if you checked the About Us page) our kiddos are both ridiculously young. I say it’s ridiculous because we often deal with, ‘why travel with kids? they won’t remember it!’ So in a sense, yes it’s ridiculous. Let’s just say this once, right now, and get it out of the way.

Just because they are young, does not mean we are young and won’t remember!

There it’s done.

This blog serves as a love letter to the open road. One that our daughter’s can one day read and appreciate the journey their young developing minds experienced. The same minds that as I write on S US Highway 84 is making our youngest cry and our oldest call out for more snacks.

This is the journey and this blog its record.

The Road So Far…

Off to an early start this morning! We loaded our minivan yesterday so that we could get a quick start to our trip. We got up at 5 AM and while Ash got breakfast for the girls I took to packing all of the ‘tronics. (if it plugs into a wall it falls under my purview)
We had the girls fed, dressed, and out the door before 6 AM, even I was impressed by that. We are now well on our way to Lubbock, 97 miles to go. My lovely wife has taken it upon herself to drive today, and to my surprise has not requested a changing of the guard. So, I will then take this opportunity to update our little blog here.

We left early so that we could make it in time to see… are you sitting down?

A prairie dog farm.

That is apparently a thing and it exists in Lubbock. I’m not sure what other sights we’ll see but that is among them for sure. I believe our accommodations tonight has a little backyard for our oldest, we’re staying in almost exclusively Airbnb #NotSponsored while on this journey. If I were to start offering travel tips to other families it would be that.

Skip the Hotels and Resorts, Go Airbnb or Homeaway

We found that for the majority, if not all, of the cities we’ll be seeing they are a better bargain. For roughly the same price, sometimes less, as a hotel you can get a house with; bedrooms, a living room, private bathrooms (that don’t require you to sneak past someone in your room), and the most important features kitchen and backyard. When you have two littles, one which requires an extremely picky white and yellow food diet (read: grilled cheese and bananas) and space to burn energy, having this space to spread out is a gift from the Road Trip Gods!

More updates to come on this journey, so please, stay tuned. I’d say click the ‘Subscribe’ button because I’m a YouTube addict but that’s not a thing that exists, so maybe ‘Bookmark’ us? kthx
